Gingerbread overtakes Froyo


Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread has, finally, overtaken Android 2.2 Froyo and now it is the most used version of the operating system.


Almost a year since its launch, Gingerbread is now the version of Android that most users are on.


According to the last numbers, the editions from 2.3 to 2.3.7, have 44.4 per cent of Android devices, up from 38.7% a month earlier, against the 40.7 per cent of Froyo, that dropped from 45.3%.

This values came from Android Developers portal regularly updated by Google.

Google has been the target of some criticism because of the fragmentation in the Android platform. There are many updates that are released that take months to reach the final user. To reduce fragmentation, Google said it would slow the release of updates, changing its strategy with the announcement of their new update - Ice Cream Sandwich.

  1. Next : Ice Cream Sandwich overtakes Gingerbread... which I'm not sure will happen... since not so many devices will OFFICIALLY be supported... :(
